Food for Thought: An Affirmation
“WE BELEIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST THE LORD,”
Who was promised to the people of Israel,
Who came in the flesh to dwell among us,
Who announced the coming of the rule of God,
Who gathered disciples and taught them,
Who died on the cross to free us from sin,
Who rose from the dead to give us life and hope,
Who reigns in heaven at the right hand of God,
Who comes to judge and bring justice to victory.
“WE BELIEVE IN GOD HIS FATHER,”
Who raised Him from the dead,
Who created and sustains the universe,
Who acts to deliver His people in times of need,
Who desires all men everywhere to be saved.
“WE BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT,”
Who is the form of God present in the church,
Who is the guarantee of our deliverance,
Who leads us to find God’s will in the Word,
Who guides us in discernment,
Who impels us to act together.” The Mennonite Hymnal, 1967

We have come to the other side of Calvary; here we are beyond the “Empty Tomb.” We cannot waste time looking at an empty tomb trying to see what we can see. We are called to believe the word of God and know that our God keeps His promises.
What we now need are disciples that can become teachers. We learn from the best teacher our Lord, even when we ask who am I to teach the way to little children day by day, so prone myself to go astray. I teach them knowledge, but I know how faint they flicker and how low the candles of my knowledge glow. I teach them power to will and do, but only now to learn anew my own great weakness through and through. I teach them love for all humankind and all God’s creatures, but I find my love comes lagging far behind. “Lord, if their guide I still must be, O let the little children see the teacher leaning hard on Thee.”
On Youth Sunday in March, the theme was for us to take the light and pass it on. Let us all take the light God gives us and let’s take it to those in darkness.
