God’s different gifts, must use for the good of others the special gift he has received form God.” (1 Peter 4:10)
“Give to others, and God will give to you. Indeed, you will receiver a full measure, a generous helping, poured into your hands – all that you can hold. The measure you use for others is the one that God will use for you.”  (Luke 6:38)

Jesus was the greatest steward that ever lived. While Jesus was on earth, he used his time and talent to help those around him. Children, pay attention to what I am going to say about Jesus. Jesus had a very special talent, he could perform miracles. Jesus healed a leper, a blind man. He brought a young girl back to life and did much more. He helped Peter and Paul in their ministries. Jesus wanted Peter and Paul to be kind to each other, to begin to be more forgiving to each other as they shared love for each other. What God has shown us we need to show our neighbors and the world. Good stewards are made up of caring, helpful, responsible and generous persons. Jesus told all his followers the following: “My commandment is this: love one another, just as I love you.” John 15:12.
Stewardship is about time: using your time wisely every day is part of what being a good steward is all about. The following are suggestions for you to practice and a few ideas of how you can spend time helping others. Help paint walls marked with graffiti. Visit someone who’s sick or lonely. Repair a toy to give to a child in need. Read to a person who can’t see well. Participate in a car wash to raise money to help the hungry. Collect canned food to give to the poor.
One of God’s gifts is property, right? Right! Since children don’t own any property, I don’t have to worry about taking care of it, right? Wrong. Property is everything you own. And stewardship of property includes taking care of the earth and all its creatures.

Additional Thought
I have heard much about a retired Yankees’ catcher known to us as Yogi Berra and what I heard was that he has a certain philosophical way of explaining things of life. Let me share one of his many thoughts and see if it makes sense to you. “It’s so crowded, nobody goes there.” Hear his explanation, “lots of people say New York is the greatest city in the world, because it is. It’s a pretty no nonsense place, too, because people aren’t shy about telling you what they think. When you rub elbows with ten million people, there’s a lot of aggressiveness going on. But competition always brings out the best, and New York has the best theaters, the best restaurants, the best museums, and the best diversity anywhere. If you can’t find anything to do in N.Y. you’re probably ill. The New York of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s has changed a great deal. New York has changed since September 11, 2001. The people of the city have come back because N. Y. is resilient. It is this resiliency that makes it special or as someone once said, “It’s the greatest city in the world – you got a problem with that?”

What can we say about ourselves that may resemble some of the things that Yogi says about New York? What do we say about our church to others? Do we inspire joy and the desire to unite in worship with our fellow sisters and brothers of the faith? Do we speak the truth in love? Do we keep on going even when the going gets tough? Can we number the many reasons why we love our church and our ministries to strangers? Do we do enough for Christ and for the church? Can we echo what Yogi says about New York when it comes to our church?
