PRAY FOR PEACE

Though we collected the Peacemaking Offering on October 1st we are reminded to pray for peace on a daily basis.

Three things to keep in your prayers:

Countries with new Democratic Governments – “Around the globe, people whose countries are emerging from years of conflict seek to form more representative and participatory governments. The institutions are often most vulnerable in the first few years of existence as governments try to establish order and legitimacy. Rejoice in the relatively successful elections in Haiti and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Pray for these countries and for the governments in Iraq and Afghanistan. May the governments create conditions for security and stability so their citizens can work toward reconciliation and development.”

Darfur, Sudan – Despite repeated UN efforts, conflict and genocide continue to ravage Darfur. Humanitarian and medical aid workers cannot help innocent civilians because of ongoing and heightened violence in the region. Pray for a swift and humanitarian resolution and a just and lasting peace in Sudan.

The United Nations – The United Nations convened its 61st General Assembly in New York City from mid-September through mid-October. World leaders gather to review the work of the UN and to plan and execute the vision they develop fro the coming year. Pray for this high profile summit and for the diplomats, nations, UN personnel and nongovernmental organizations that are involved. Remember the UN’s unsung work – humanitarian aid, immunizations, development, peacekeeping, mine-removal, health education and more. May the often-ignored voices of those in conflict, poverty and childhood be heard and addressed.
